Corsicana, TX

FRI., FEB 2 thru SAT., FEB 3, 2024

We passed longhorn cattle along our 223 mile drive west on I-20 from Shreveport, LA. The Hannafords were about 10 minutes ahead of us, and Joe gave me a heads up about these big boys coming up along the side of the road. Joe and I point out interesting things to each other via text. It passes the time in between navigation duties and clues the other couple into what they may see coming up.

On Friday, Feb. 2nd (2024), we arrived at Liberty Hill Park on Navarro Mills Lake… about 30 minutes outside Corsicana. It’s a Corp of Engineer Park we’ve stayed at before. Lovely spacious sites at only $14 a night, and our site came with a beautiful view of the lake. We’re only here for 2 nights and it rained upon arrival, so we have limited time to enjoy this beautiful view!

On Sat., Feb 3rd, (2024) Gary & I visited the world famous Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana. As you may (or may not know) I LOVE fruitcake. This bakery has been making fruitcake in Corsicana since 1896. The bakery started 2 blocks from the current downtown location. Lots of photos of celebrities on their walls enjoying their fruitcake. I was able to buy one at 25% off, and their fruitcakes are expensive. Score!

We had a very enjoyable stay at this Corp of Engineer Park. We’ve seen lots of white pelicans (my favorite) on the lake each morning. We also enjoyed sitting outside listening to the birds and a beautiful sunset on our final night.

Our next stop is Bryan, TX for a week… a suburb of College Station where Texas A&M is located.
