We traveled 85 miles south and arrived at Maumee Bay State Park on the shores of Lake Erie in Oregon, OH. We’re about 20 minutes from Toledo. Gary and I have stayed here before. It’s 1,900 acres of loveliness! 250+ campsites, bike trails, hiking trails, fishing, beaches, an 18-hole golf course, nature trails, archery, and a lodge where 2 weddings were taking place on Saturday. There were also lots of asters in bloom when we were visiting.
All the campsites are spacious and private. Most are electric only (no sewer hookup) and reasonable at $31 a night!
We had beautiful weather while here and enjoyed a campfire one night, biked about 14 miles, and played cards while watching the Pats lose to the Cowboys on Sunday. We also attempted a 2-mile walk on the elevated boardwalk, the largest of its kind in the state. Unfortunately the boardwalk was damaged by a tornado and high winds that blew through Toledo and surrounding areas in mid-June. Only a 1/4 mile of the boardwalk was open. The rest is closed for repairs. Thankfully no one was hurt in the park when the high winds blew thru.
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time here… tomorrow we move on to Delaware, OH.
