In case you wonder how we fill our days when we’re not on some new sight seeing adventure or bike riding etc., we’re doing mundane things like grocery shopping, laundry, cooking, paying bills, reviewing 2018’s budget to see how we did (poorly!), planning this year’s budget, starting taxes, or cleaning our tiny home. Conversely, we’re also doing some hobby kinds of things. For me that takes the form of zentangle, yoga (sadly not often), needlepoint, reading, or coloring (I’ll get to that one of these days!). Gary’s “hobby” activities usually entail future trip planning or some type of RV fix-it project. And, we’ve discovered birding! We have a new set of binoculars. (Thanks to Christmas money from Mom.) Gary’s very good at finding birds, ducks, etc. in our pond and marsh grass and I mark them in our bird book. We also take nightly walks in our little RV community. Typically we’re the only ones out walking at that hour. Very peaceful and we can look at the stars and the moon over the pond.

Blythe Island
Today we visited Blythe Island County Park to walk the campground and mark down sites that we may like for a future stay. After that we saw lots of wildlife at Blythe! We visited with the bunnies. I have to remember to bring food for them next time we come. Not that they look like they’re starving. Quite the contrary. They’re little porkers. We also saw two dolphins off the fishing pier at Blythe. Pretty. The marina has a boat lift that can lift boats up to 11,000 lbs. We were watching a boat being lifted out of the water when a bevy of pelicans came to sit below us in the water. One of the fisherman said that’s where people clean fish and they throw the leftovers into the water for the pelicans. The pelicans thought we had food for them. Sorry pelicans… no fish guts to send your way. Then we saw a mink wondering around the fishing pier and stealing bait from a cooler. First time I ever saw a mink!
Gary was enthralled with a RoRo Ship across the river. RoRo is short for Roll On-Roll Off. It’s a type of ship used for transporting “wheeled cargo” specifically cars, trucks, etc. that get rolled on and rolled off the ship via built in ramps. As it turns out, Brunswick’s Port is the third busiest port in the U.S. for RoRo cargo and the second busiest for RoRo imports. You can see massive parking lots around the port filled with BMW’s, Mercedes, and lesser expensive models waiting to be transported by truck and train to other parts of the country. There’s usually a few RoRos coming and going every day at the Brunswick port.

Driftwood Beach
It was a beautiful day. Great day for a bike ride over at Jekyll Island. We parked in one of the parking lots. Had lunch at a picnic table overlooking the sand dunes, and rode on the bike path past several beaches and blocks of private homes over to Driftwood Beach. An amazingly magical beach! Large driftwood trees that stand in the water. A remarkable site. Otherworldly. It’s consistently voted one of the 10 most romantic beaches in the US and is a popular spot for wedding photos.
We walked along the beach, took pictures, and said “wow” about 10,000 times and then got back on our bikes and pedaled back past the private homes, sand dunes, and beaches to get in the truck and head back to our tiny home. A delightful day! And, it wasn’t over yet!
When we got back in the truck I realized I had a phone message and text message from Stacie & Johnny. Friends we met on our spring RV trip. They were due to stay at Coastal Georgia RV (our campground) in about a week. Staci left a message saying “Call me, we have a surprise for you.” Turns out they altered their plans to spend the night at a site next to ours before they head to the Tampa RV Show the following day. How fabulous! We had a delightful afternoon catching up with them and their sweet dog Niki and then headed off to dinner at a great restaurant on Jekyll Island that a couple of locals had told us about (Driftwood Bistro). Thanks for dinner guys! It was a wonderful night and we look forward to seeing them again in about a week and a half when they come through again on their way back home!
Tomorrow Gary and I made reservations to head to St. Augustine for an overnight! We’re excited to see the Nights of Lights (their Christmas display) and the historic district!
