Mohegan Sun, CT

Sun., Oct. 10, 2021

Sunday morning we all headed south 192 miles to stay at Mohegan Sun’s RV parking lot In Uncasville, CT. Yep, that’s the casino. I initially had to call to make sure we were allowed to stay there with Covid still going on. We knew they had closed their main parking area that was used for RV’s. But after making several attempts at finding the right phone #, I did manage to finally get the right person (thanks to Stacie’s amazing research abilities) who said yes we could park our RVs, but we’d have to use the parking lot across from the employee gas station. Hard to believe they actually have an employee gas station.

For those non-campers out there, this is called boondocking because we have no hookups. We’re relying on fresh water in one of the the RV holding tanks to wash yourself, dishes, and flush toilets. Another holding tank takes care of the waste “gray” water from the kitchen/bathroom shower/faucet. And still another “black water” holding tank takes care of the toilet waste. TMI?????  It’s all very civilized! When we get to our next full hook-up campground, we’ll dump it all!

It was a little like old times for us being at Mohegan. It was a favorite of my sweet mother-in-law’s. She loved gambling. Gary has a bit of that gene. Our friends (Stacie, Cheryl, Joe, Pearl & Marti) had never been to Mohegan before so Gary gave them a little tour. Johnny stayed behind since gambling wasn’t his thing. Mohegan Sun’s interior is chock full of Native American design elements. In addition there are placards and exhibits talking about the Mohegan tribe. It really is something special. If a casino can be gorgeous, this one totally is.

After the tour, we all split up. I went back into a few of the shops then found a quiet nook to catch up on some reading on my iPhone. Gary played blackjack for an hour or two and ended up ahead by $100! Afterwards he & I enjoyed pizza at famous Pepe’s (est. 1925). Fortunately they have a restaurant at Mohegan Sun. I had their fall specialty Rustic Mushroom Pizza. Gary did not. Afterwards, we picked up dessert at Carlos’s (est. 1930) and brought it home. I enjoyed a slice of pecan pie that I made last over 3 nights. Gary had a canoli filled piece of cheese cake, which I told him he could cut in half and have over 2 nights. He said “or not.” Actually he did have it last over two nights. Hee hee.  Mohegan Sun was a fun stop for one night. Tomorrow is a longer travel day as we’re headed into Pennsylvania.
