FRI., MAY 10 thru MON., MAY 13th, 2024
Cheryl, Joe, Gary and I left Galveston after our 3-month stay and spent one night outside Houston at Katy Lake RV Resort. On route from Galveston, Gary & I were on Hwy 6, which is not a highway but more of a side road that goes through communities with strip malls and traffic lights. Gary started pulling over to the side of the road. I said “why are you stopping?” He said because there’s a cop flashing his lights. Oh-kay. Now what?! The cop came up to us and said “you know your license plate isn’t visible on the back of your 5th wheel because of your bikes covering it.” We nodded in agreement. He said in Texas that’s not illegal but you may want to fix it so that the license can be read. Right. We can do that. So it wasn’t illegal but you stopped us anyway? But who are we to question a cop. He was very nice, even if he did make my heart jump… and not in a good way. One more thing to add to Gary’s to-do list… move the license plate so it’s visible.
After our overnight stop outside Houston, we then traveled 180 miles northwest to Basin RV Resort in Belton TX. We saw obvious signs of spring flooding during the drive from the Houston area. We’re here in Belton for three nights visiting (brother) Andy and (sis) Linda who call this beautiful park home several months out of the year. Gary and I are feeling blessed as we were also able to visit with so many family members during this short visit! All would make great pod members… just sayin!
L&A had burgers for us the first night, and they were most appreciated after an afternoon of catching up with each other.
Unbeknownst to Linda, Bill (their eldest son) had been in touch with me about surprising his mom with a pre-Mother’s Day visit. He lives a few hours away and had a rare day off. I kept my mouth shut and had the fun of seeing Bill roll up in his truck with his wife Glynda and their granddaughter Lydia and Linda’s surprised expression! It was a fun visit! Bill works in the oil industry so lots of good stories to share. One funny thing happened… Bill was talking about “wells” and I was dealing with a clogged ear due to wax in my ear so was not hearing great. I thought he said “whales”, plus there’s that strong Texas accent! I said something about how can there be whales… well, when I realized it was “wells,” I laughed so hard I was crying… everyone else did, too!
The following day, Sunday, May 12th, (2024), was Mother’s Day, and it rained down hail in the morning… some was golf-ball sized!! So loud when it hit the roof of our tiny home! Luckily no damage that we could tell. The Tise family made the trip from Austin to spend Mother’s Day with us. So fun to have one more opportunity to see them before we leave Texas. It was a rainy day so luckily we had access to the club house at the campground. We chatted, ate, drank, walked the campground in between rain drops, and played games.
On Monday, May 13th, the first thing was me going to urgent care to get the wax cleaned out of my ears! Phew!! I can hear again! Then later in the day we headed to my nephew Blake’s house (L&A’s younger son) to spend time with his wonderful family. Dinner was delicious thanks to Blake’s smoker and grilling skills and Linda’s extras and Misty’s helping hands. We also got to celebrate brother Andy’s 78th birthday. It was actually on May 6th, but close enough! (We finished up the Mother’s Day leftover cake and put new candles on it. lol.)
Next stop San Angelo, TX where I was born!
